JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A bomb squad determined a suspicious item that was found Friday evening in front of a Westside police substation was not explosive, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
The bomb squad responded about 6:45 p.m. to the Zone 4 police substation in the Cedar Hills Shopping Center on Blanding Boulevard near Wilson Boulevard after officers noticed the item.
Officers evacuated the stores in the shopping center as a precaution as the bomb squad investigated.
Police said the bomb squad found that the small item was not explosive.
The unknown item was then taken to a different location to be looked at, police said.
Businesses were able to reopen just before 9 p.m.
