National Park Service crews begin removing cannons from St. Augustine fort

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Crews with the National Park Service have removed some of the cannons from the Castillo de San Marcos fort in St. Augustine.

The cannons were floated up to Jacksonville via barge and were loaded Friday morning onto flatbed trucks to be taken to Texas A&M University Conservation Research Lab for restoration.

The plan is to have all 25 cannons restored, which will take five years.
