Man killed, woman critically injured in Putnam County crash

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A man was killed and two others were injured, one of them critically, in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon near Hollister in Putnam County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened about 2:45 p.m. on State Road 20 near 9 Mile Swamp Road.

According to the FHP report, a Ford Mustang was traveling east on State Road when, for unknown reasons, the Mustang crossed the center median into oncoming traffic and collided with the rear of a westbound Toyota Tacoma.

Troopers said the driver, a 57-year-old Hollister man, and the passenger, a 35-year-old Palatka woman, were thrown from the Mustang. It's unknown whether they were wearing seat belts. 

Troopers said the Mustang's driver, Reynaldo Colon Rivera, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he died. The female passenger was also taken to the hospital with critical injuries. 

The driver of the Tacoma, a 27-year-old Lake City man, suffered minor injuries, troopers said.

Charges are pending, according to the Highway Patrol.
