Man hit, killed on San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville police say

JSO identifies pedestrian as 34-year-old Jason Boone

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 34-year-old man was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday evening on San Jose Boulevard in Mandarin, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

It happened about 10 p.m. just south of Loretto Road.

According to police, Jason Boone got out of a vehicle that was stopped in the median. Police said he then stepped into northbound lanes of San Jose Boulevard and was hit by a car.

Boone died at the scene, police said.

The driver, who stopped at the scene, was cooperating with the investigation, the Sheriff's Office said.

Traffic homicide detectives continue to investigate.

According to JSO, this was the 98th reported traffic fatality this year in Duval County.
