Deputies say Jessica Rice left without allowing DCF to perform evaluation

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Columbia County baby and her mother have been found safe and healthy.

Jessica Lynn Rice and her 7-month-old baby, A'laya Rice were reported missing Tuesday when the Department of Children and Families could not get in touch with them.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, a DCF worker was attempting to evaluate the baby. They say Jessica Lynn Rice, "fled" with her baby before the evaluation and would not allow DCF to perform the wellness check.

Rice was not immediately facing charges, the Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday.

It was announced on Wednesday that Rice called the sheriff's office and A'laya was checked by DCF.
