NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. – Continuing an annual tradition in Neptune Beach, hundreds gathered for a Thanksgiving Day celebration at Pete’s Bar.
Partygoers decked out in turkey hats packed First Street to kick off the holiday with drinks and good company.
Ted Ohrt has been celebrating at Pete’s every Thanksgiving morning for the last four years.
“It makes the rest of the day easier. You’re already relaxed and looking forward to sitting down and watching football," Ohrt said. “Well this particular area is really tight-knit anyway. Most of the people that are here are actually natives, but it’s really great, because everybody comes down and has a good time and doesn’t get very loud or raucous. Nobody really gets in trouble. Everybody is really respectful of each other.”
The Pete’s Bar tradition has been carrying on for several decades, and many people there Thursday morning said it’s all about bringing the community together.
“The camaraderie of all the people, the crowds -- it’s just fabulous,” Susan Sahi said.
It's also a place to make new friends from all over the country.
“There’s a lot of people I meet from different parts of the country that come in here visiting friends, come from California, Colorado, come here for the holidays,” Charlie Weekly said. “Let’s put the turkey in the oven. Let’s go down to Pete’s.”
