Georgia man charged with exposing himself at Fernandina Beach

Warrant issued after couple with children reported witnessing act in October

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – A 62-year-old man accused of performing a sex act on a public beach, in front of a family with children, now faces a misdemeanor charge of exposing himself, authorities said.

Raymond Martz, of Woodbine, Georgia, was arrested Thursday by the Nassau County Sheriff's Office, but has since been released from jail on $10,000 bond.

According to the arrest report, on Oct.12, Fernandina Beach police were called to the main beach access on Fletcher Avenue.

A man and his wife, who is a judge in Central Florida, told police they were on the beach and the man was performing a lewd act. The Orlando couple said it happened while their children were nearby, but the children did not see what happened.  

According to the arrest report, Martz originally told police he had been was adjusting his shorts. The report states when they later questioned him at police headquarters, he admitted that he had exposed himself but denied performing a sex act in public. 

Martz was allowed to leave and the case was turned over to the state attorney’s office, where a warrant for his arrest was eventually granted. 

Martz is charged with one count of exposing a sex organ. 

He’s due in court Dec. 17.
