Arrest made in shooting death of man in Jacksonville Heights

Angelo Giardino III, 22, charged with manslaughter of friend, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An arrest was made in a deadly shooting that involved two friends, Jacksonville police said.

A 22-year-old man was shot and killed around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Homicide detectives said the victim has been identified as Michael Hooks (pictured below), who lived on Toyota Drive in Jacksonville Heights, where the shooting occurred.

Police arrested Angelo Giardino III, 22, and charged him with manslaughter in the death of Hook. They said the two were friends.

Giardino is believed to have gotten a gun, belonging to Hooks, from the home. He didn't realize the firearm was loaded and pointed it at Hooks and then pulled the trigger, according to investigators.

Hooks was shot once and died at the hospital.

Giardino appeared before a judge Monday morning, and his bond was set at $100,000. He will be in court again Feb. 12.

Detectives are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information about the shooting to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
