Man shot inside Soutel Drive bar and grill, police say

State closes down lounge for selling alcohol after 2 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was shot in the back at the Ice Lounge Bar and Grill on Soutel Drive early Sunday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Detectives are working to find out who shot the man but said they have no suspects.

This is the third violent incident at the Ice Lounge since October.

Mark Campbell, who works at a nearby coin laundry, said he sees police responding to violence at the Ice Bar about once a month.

"We don’t get through a month without something going on, you know what I mean, so about once a month, you know something's going to go wrong," Campbell said.

Shortly after the shooting, Alcohol Beverages and Tobacco agents closed down the establishment, on Soutel two blocks east of U.S. 1, for selling alcohol after the 2 a.m.

"Drinking, I guess, after 2 o’clock they’re drinking, and I think, that’s the bottom line, right there," Campbell said.

In December, a man was cut on the face with a machete outside of the lounge. Investigators say there was an altercation inside the lounge and it spilled over into the parking lot. Officers say a woman was arrested in connection with the cutting.

In October, a man says he was kidnapped from Tampa, then brought to Jacksonville. The victim told police he was held at the Ice Lounge against his will. Police said the man had injuries to his face.

Just last month, there were several crimes reported by JSO within a 2-mile radius of the Ice Lounge including:

  • 1 Strongarm Robbery
  • 4 Car break-ins and thefts
  • 10 Burglaries
  • 20 Thefts
  • 27 Assaults

Police are investigating as they search for the shooter. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS (8477).
