Man shot in dispute over unpaid cab fare, police say

JSO: 22-year-old victim uncooperative, keeps saying 'I want my mother'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 22-year-old man refused to cooperate with police and kept saying "I want my mother" after he was shot in a dispute over an unpaid cab fare, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

The man was taken to Memorial Hospital and was last reported in serious condition.

The shooting was reported early Sunday morning at the Park Place Beach Apartments on Hogan Road.

Police did not have any suspect information.

The initial officer who responded spoke to the victim in Spanish before he was taken to the hospital. The man told him the shooting was the result of a dispute with a cab driver over an unpaid fare, according to the incident report.

Once at the hospital, medical personnel told police that the man was uncooperative but that he was expected to survive his injuries. They said he kept repeating, "I want my mother," and would not give any other information about the shooting.
