Off-duty Brevard County Sheriff's Office employee wounded in shooting

No arrests have been made in Jacksonville hotel shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – An off-duty Brevard County Sheriff's Office employee was wounded in a shooting just before 5 a.m. Sunday at the Lexington Hotel on Jacksonville's Southbank, authorities said.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, a man, who was visiting Jacksonville, was found with several gunshot wounds in the hallway of one of the upper floors of the hotel on Prudential Drive. He was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. 

Investigators said the man was in a fight with another man he knew inside a hotel room and the altercation led to the shooting.

On Monday, the Brevard County Sheriff's Office announced in a news release that one of its employees was off-duty when he was injured in the shooting. BCSO said the employee was in serious, but stable condition at last check.

JSO said the investigation is active, and police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and all people involved in the shooting have been located. According to an incident report, a man in his 40s was detained. JSO said he was not read his Miranda rights and the case was turned over to detectives.

News4Jax learned Tuesday that no arrests have been made in the case.

After JSO finishes its investigation, BCSO said that it will conduct a Professional Standards inquiry of the incident.
