A school dean notified the resource officer, who found Houston in the boy's restroom, the Sheriff's Office said. Houston was found talking with another student in the bathroom, handcuffed and taken into custody without incident.

The following message was sent to parents of Ribault High students after the incident:

Good afternoon parents of Ribault High School, this is principal Bostic calling. As you know I want to keep you fully informed of anything that happens on campus that might concern you as a parent, and this call is in that category.

Today our campus police officer recovered a loaded firearm from a student as a result of a tip from another student.

I am thankful that no one was harmed, and I’m also thankful for the student who reported seeing the firearm. “See something – say something” remains as one of our best strategies for campus safety.

The student who brought the firearm is being arrested by the police.

Parents, please know that bringing firearms or weapons to campus is strictly prohibited and will result in arrest and disciplinary actions up to and including expulsion. Please make sure your students understand the life-changing consequences of this type of conduct.

Thanks for your partnership in keeping Ribault a safe and secure learning environment. Thanks again and have a great evening.
