Former camp counselor accused of molesting child

Dante Mobley was Boys and Girls Club summer camp counselor several years ago

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A former camp counselor accused of molesting a child several years ago was arrested Monday on a warrant, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said.

Dante Mobley, 35, is charged with lewd and lascivious molestation on a child under the age of 12.

The Sheriff's Office said it received in May 2018 a delayed report of a child sex offense that occurred between May 2011 and August 2012 at a Boys and Girls Club in Flagler County.

According to an arrest report, Mobley molested a girl, who was 8 or 9 years old at the time, while he was her Boys and Girls Club summer camp counselor. Deputies said the man abused the child several times during camp.

The address listed on the arrest report shows the camp was located at Rymfire Elementary School in Palm Coast. Flagler County Schools said it provided the building for the program.

Joe Sullivan, with the Boys and Girls Club, said deputies told the organization about the investigation last year.

"We found out last spring that there was an ongoing investigation. The young man worked for us about three years and we let him go 2013," Sullivan told News4Jax. "We are about safety and about kids. We have been doing this forever. We have eight clubs and we never had anything like this to be brought forward. So we are really concerned about the girl and her family."

On Monday, a warrant was obtained for Mobley's arrest. Detectives said they located him that morning near the intersection of East Drain and South State streets in Bunnell and took him into custody. Mobley was then booked into the Flagler County jail, where he's being held with bond, online jail records show.

Flagler County deputies encourage any other potential victims to come forward. The investigation is ongoing.

Monday was not Mobley's first arrest. In fact, according to Flagler County court records, Mobley was arrested on a charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a child between the ages of 12 and 16 in December 2013 -- the same year he was terminated from the Boys and Girls Club as a counselor. Court records show he was convicted and sentenced in 2014. After he was released from prison in March 2018, according to records, he was arrested and charged with violation of probation in April 2018 and in December 2018.
