Troopers said Qurku was driving a 2015 Volvo semitrailer on I-95 just south of Union Street in the right lane when the man walked from the right shoulder into the path of the truck.

The right side of the front bumper of the semitrailer hit the pedestrian who was knocked back onto the right shoulder and died from the impact.

The crash and investigation closed the right lane on the interstate near the Forsyth Street exit for nearly five hours after the 5 a.m. wreck.

The driver of the semitrailer was not injured and is cooperating in the investigation.
