Jacksonville police say woman may have gone back into home to get dogs

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman died Tuesday in a mobile home fire near the Duval-Nassau county line, authorities said.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue  Department said there were heavy flames showing when crews arrived just before 7 p.m. at the home on Blyler Road off Lannie Road and reinforcements had to be called.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, there were several people in the home who escaped the blaze, but a woman died. Police said they had heard the woman had gone back into the home to try to save dogs, but could not confirm that.

The Sheriff's Office said it believes three people were living in the home, but it's unclear how many were inside at the time of the fire. Police said none of the people who escaped were children.

According to the Sheriff's Office, no foul play is suspected at this time. The state fire marshal will be working to determine the cause of the fire and is expected to return to the scene Wednesday morning.
