Police: Arrest made after man thrown from truck during carjacking dies

Johnathan Alexander Green charged with murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a carjacking that occurred in August, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Johnathan Alexander Green, 22, was ordered held on $625,000 bond, records show. He was charged with murder, carjacking, giving a false name to law enforcement and battery.

According to the Sheriff's Office, police responded to the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Eve Drive East at about 7:19 a.m. on Aug. 23. Investigators learned a carjacking had occurred in the area.

A witness, police said, told officers the suspect jumped into the driver's side of the victim's truck. The victim, a man, then jumped into the passenger's seat and was partially hanging out of the truck.

According to police, the victim was thrown from the truck as the suspect drove out of the parking lot. The man later died from his injuries on Aug. 29.

According to his daughter, who asked not to be identified, the victim was 60-year-old Jerry Osborn. She said her father was a construction contractor who moved to Jacksonville 17 years ago from Kansas City, Missouri. She said her father had a reputation of hiring people in need of jobs, giving them an opportunity to make an honest living.

She said Osborn had stopped at an ice machine on his way to work before he died.

“A guy approached him. I don’t know the details of the story, but he was carjacked," Osborn's daughter said. "He hit his head, which caused injuries to his brain. He succumbed to his injuries."

Osborn's daughter said she and her family are pleased an arrest was made, but they won't have closure until someone is convicted in her father's death. Osborn was laid to rest on Thursday in Kansas City.

"We won't forget it," she said. "It will take some time for us to heal."
