Jacksonville police recapture escaped inmate

Inmate serving time for burglary removed ankle monitor

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 36-year-old inmate who escaped from a work-release program over the weekend is back in custody, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Victor Nash was last known to be in the area of Hogans Creek near North Catherine Street. Police said he removed his GPS ankle monitor and disappeared.

Police have not said where he was located on Monday but said he was absentee booked -- likely meaning he is being treated for a medical condition before being taken to jail.

Nash was initially arrested Aug. 1 on a burglary charge and was serving a sentence of 277 days. He was scheduled to be released in June 2020.

News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said that if Nash is convicted of escape, he could be sentenced to an additional five years.
