The winning numbers in the Wednesday night drawing were 6, 27, 46, 51, 56 and Powerball 21.

The Michigan Lottery says the ticket was sold in Lapeer at a Sunoco gas station, about 45 miles north of Detroit.

There was no immediate word about the identity of the buyer.

Winning ticket creates excitement

Lapeer City Manager Dale Kerbyson says the city is abuzz with excitement and the timing of the win couldn't be better. They are hoping the winner is from Lapeer because there is an income tax in the city –meaning the city could get a potential windfall of money, around $2.2 million.

Kari Lyn, who lives in Lapeer, says the Sunoco gas station is known for everyone to go to because of how friendly the workers are.

"It's something big around here," said Lyn. "Nothing that big happens around here. It's like quite major."

Debbie Dillon was born and raised in Lapeer and even bought a handful of her own Powerball tickets at the same gas station.

"I got up this morning, made my coffee, laid down on the couch to watch TV, heard it and went uh, where's my tickets?" said Dillon.

While the winner is still a mystery, hopes are high he or she is home grown.

"I'm hoping it's somebody we know, maybe I grew up with, you don't know, that you run into everyday could be the person," said Dillon.

Additional winning tickets across the nation

In addition to the jackpot-winning ticket, there were eight tickets that matched five of the winning numbers to win $1 million. Two of those tickets were sold in Indiana. The others were sold in Kansas, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

There was also a ticket sold in Nebraska that added the Power Play to win $2 million.
