Boy shot in arm in NW Jacksonville home

Police investigating after 7-year-old injured by bullet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 7-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital after he was shot in the arm while lying in bed late Sunday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

The shooting took place around 11:45 p.m. Sunday on Doncaster Avenue off Sibbald Avenue in Northwest Jacksonville. The boy was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the police report, a 24-year-old who described herself as the boy's aunt, said other members of the family were in the front of the house when they heard a pop and decided to check on the boy and found him standing and holding his arm.

Police initially labeled the shooting accidental, but said Monday night that it's unclear what happened, and detectives are investigating.

Monday morning, police dropped off a woman at the house. She later yelled at News4Jax and other media saying she didn't want to be on the news.

Neighbors would not talk about the family who lives in the house, but one told News4Jax that she wished they would move.
