JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Due to expected freezing temperatures over the weekend, City Rescue Mission will open the Cold Weather Emergency Shelter this weekend.

The New Life Inn shelter at 234 West State Street will be open Saturday and Sunday. The space will be extended to accommodate up to 100 more people in need of a warm place to sleep.

“We will not turn anyone away," manager of Emergency Services Jaime Davis said.

People needing shelter may check in at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. People staying overnight may remain in the building until 10:30 a.m. the following morning, or until temperatures rise above 40 degrees.

"We want to make sure that Jacksonville citizens without a home have warm shelter and a hot meal," executive director Penny Kievet said.
