FHP searching for driver who left scene in truck

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed Saturday morning when he was hit from behind while riding his scooter, and run over by another car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at 5:30 a.m. on Normandy Boulevard near Herlong Recreational Airport. Troopers said James Canning, 64, was traveling east on Normandy Boulevard and stopped in the right lane.

A car rear-ended Canning, throwing him off the scooter. According to a witness, a second vehicle, described as a pickup truck, ran over Canning. The driver of the truck stopped momentarily and then drove off.

Troopers asked for help tracking down the driver of the pickup truck, which was described as a Chevrolet Z71. The truck had all-terrain tires, was believed to be brown in color and lifted.

The driver was described as a white male with short hair and a beard.
