Surveillance shows man swiping sports equipment in Jacksonville

Neighbors report fishing rods, gas can, kayak stolen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Neighbors in the San Jose neighborhood of Jacksonville shared with News4Jax video of a man taking items from their homes, Friday night.

One video shows a man walking into a carport on Cesperdes Avenue. A homeowner said the man took at least $5,000 total worth of belongings from him and several neighbors.

According to the police report John Fleming lost around $400 in fishing poles and reels as well as another $25 in gasoline.

"The people came up from the driveway. The lights flew on and my cameras came on, and we saw them actually pick up stuff," said Fleming, who shared the video with News4Jax.

Several of Fleming's neighbors said they were also hit, as Fleming learned through the community phone application NextDoor.

Keith Keller told News4Jax the supposed thief took a 17 foot lime green kayak.

"It's getting to the point where people are desperate for money but now you're starting to hurt people's livelihoods and you're taking out of their pockets," said Keller.
