Teen driver whose SUV hit semi on San Jose dies

Traffic on San Jose Boulevard closed for 6 hours while police investigated

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have identified the teenage driver killed in a crash Friday night at the intersection of San Jose Boulevard and Loretto Road.

A tractor-trailer southbound on San Jose was attempting to turn left on Loretto about 10:45 p.m. when it was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Donald Marcus Chapman III, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.

Chapman, 16, died at the scene. The driver of the semi was not hurt.

Traffic homicide detectives questioned witnesses and were trying to determine if speed was a factor in the crash. All lanes reopened just after 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
