Family wants to bury murder victim in Africa

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. - A devastated family is asking for the public's help to bury their murdered loved one in the place where she was born.

DeeDee Edie was found dead in her family's yard Tuesday. Clay County Sheriff's investigators said she was murdered by her son, Teyi Lawson, who was arrested and charged with her murder.

The family fled their native country of Togo 20 years ago. Now, Nadu Watson and her family want to return to Africa to bury Eddie.

"It's just very important that we go back and see the family and that they see her as well," said Watson.

The family said they don't want to discuss how or why Lawson would have killed his mother.

Instead, they want to focus on the woman they've lost.

"She loved God first, her family, [and] loved people, humanity," said Watson.

Watson said she and her family are hoping that the public will help her family take Edie back to her homeland in Africa for a traditional burial.

The family said the trip will cost $17,000 to$ 20,000. But Watson said that's money the family doesn't have.

Watson said anyone can contribute to the burial by depositing money into an account benefiting the family at VyStar Credit Union.
