GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A Florida woman was arrested after police investigators recorded a phone call on Friday night during which she discussed hiring a man to kill someone, Gainesville police said.
Victoria Leigh Sargento-Graham, 29, was charged with attempted murder and attempted solicitation, according to an arrest report.
The relationship between the woman and the alleged victim was redacted by authorities in the report.
The Gainesville Sun reported Sargento-Graham called the witness early Friday and asked him to drive her home. Once there, she asked him to kill someone, the report said.
Investigators said she told the witness that she tried to do it herself, but couldn’t. The man told her he’d do it later in the day, but instead he contacted police.
While he was talking to police, he got a call from Sargento-Graham, according to the arrest report. The officer recorded the audio and video of the call on has body camera.
The report said Sargento-Graham discussed the killing, saying the world is cruel and that killing the sleeping person would be the best option.
Police took Sargento-Graham into custody and she was arrested Friday night. The report said she initially claimed the witness put the idea of suffocating the person in her head but then admitted the plan was hers.
She remained in the Alachua County jail Saturday afternoon in lieu of $500,000 bail. A lawyer wasn’t listed on jail records.
