Man got in through unlocked apartment door, police say

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Gainesville police on Monday released a composite sketch of a man who they said walked into a woman's apartment early Saturday morning and took a picture of her.

About 3 a.m. Saturday, police said, the man entered through an unlocked apartment door at a complex on Northwest Third Place, and the woman was woken up by a flash from a cellphone camera.

According to the Gainesville Police Department, the woman asked the man to leave, he hugged her and then left a few minutes later.

She called police, and officers searched the area but could not find the man. The Police Department said patrols will be increased. 

Police described the man as being 20 to 30 years old, 6 feet to 6 feet 5 inches tall and overweight, with a short haircut. He was reportedly wearing a dark green T-shirt, and dark basketball-type shorts. 

According to police, he has a protruding lower jaw, and spoke through his teeth with pursued lips. The victim told officers that the man's speech pattern was slow and his grammar was poor. 

Anyone who recognizes the man or has any information is asked to call GPD Sgt. R. Fanelli at 352-393-7725.

Police are also seeking any photos or selfies that people might have taken last Friday night/Saturday morning that could possibly have the suspect depicted in the composite drawing. Anyone with photos can email them to policetips@cityofgainesville.org.
