Attorney convicted of fraud in Rothstein scam

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - An attorney who worked at convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein's now-defunct law firm has been convicted of fraud for her role in the $1.2 billion scam.

A federal jury in West Palm Beach found 39-year-old Christina Kitterman guilty Tuesday on all three wire fraud counts. Trial testimony showed Rothstein asked Kitterman to pose as a Florida Bar official in a conference call with nervous investors.

Kitterman testified she thought she was talking to people who were refusing to pay settlements. Rothstein's scam involved investments in phony legal settlements.

Rothstein is serving a 50-year prison sentence and testified on Kitterman's behalf, his first public appearance in several years.

The Palm Beach Post reports that each wire fraud count against Kitterman carries a potential 20-year prison term.
