Detectives warn of text message phishing scam

Callers asked for credit card info after text alerting them to 'fraud'

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. – Detectives with the Baker County Sheriff's Office said they have been alerted to a phishing scam affecting the county's residents.

They said citizens have reported receiving a text message from a 410 area code.

The text says “This is from the Fraud Department and your credit/debit card information needs to be confirmed due to possible compromise.”

When the call is returned, the caller is asked to enter their full card number and other card details.

The detectives said anyone who is a victim of a scam is encouraged to report it to the sheriff's office immediately at 904-259-2231.
