Reserve Bradford County deputy charged with domestic battery

Headline Goes Here

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS, Fla. - Bradford County deputies investigating a hang-up 911 call from a Keystone Heights gas station about 5 a.m. Sunday found the wife of a newly sworn reserve deputy with the Sheriff's Office who said she was involved in a domestic dispute with her husband.

Investigators say the woman had minor injuries from a physical altercation.

Her husband, Ronald Gassaway, voluntarily came in for questioning. The Sheriff's Office said he was immediately suspended from any law enforcement duties pending the outcome of the criminal case and internal investigation.

After being interviewed, detectives believe Gassaway withheld information and was arrested and booked into the Bradford County Jail, but was relocated to an undisclosed facility due to his connection with the Sheriff's Office.

"It is difficult to investigate and arrest one of our own," Sheriff Gordon Smith said. "However the Bradford County Sheriff's Office will take whatever steps are necessary to maintain the trust of our community and the integrity of the sheriff's star."
