Cab driver shot, killed on Jacksonville's Northside

JSO: Gator City Taxi driver Stuart Carson found unresponsive, bleeding

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is trying to find out who killed a Gator City Taxi driver and why.

About 7:45 a.m. Saturday, police called to the Brentwood area found Stuart Carson, 43, unresponsive and bleeding in a taxi cab.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Carson was pronounced dead at the scene.

"What we've learned so far is that sometime well after midnight area residents heard what they thought were gunshots," said Sgt. T.K. Waters with the JSO homicide unit.

Police said it was raining and storming at the time so no one in the 500 block of W. 27th Street came outside. When people came out in the morning they saw the victim inside the cab.

Tiffany Gibbs told us she's the one who found Carson and called 911.

"I seen the cab driver. I seen that the car was still on, the windshield wipers. I was like, maybe he fell asleep at the wheel or something like that," Gibbs said.

People who live in the neighborhood say the sight of crime scene tape is becoming a common sight in the area.

"When a guy told me it was a taxi driver, I was like, 'Wow, they killed a taxi driver? I mean, just wow. I don't know what happened,'" said Charlie Parks.

"It could have been me out here, slouched over in a car. Or something like that. It could have been me or my sister or another person in my family," said D'ondrea Wiggins.

Police were searching the area and trying to find witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
