Child found wandering on busy road reunited with family

Sleeping babysitter blamed for child wandering on busy road

APOPKA, Fla. – Investigators say a 3-year-old girl who was found wandering a busy road in Apopka alone was reunited with her family on Sunday.

Seminole County deputies found the girl, who said her name was Isabella, walking along a busy stretch of Bear Lake Road around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.

"Everybody's cutting through," said Patrick Smith, who lives right off the roadway. "There's a lot of traffic on this road."

The child was placed in protective custody until early Sunday morning when investigators returned her to her family.

"How do you let a 3-year-old girl get out at 8 o'clock?" Smith asked. "Kids can disappear quickly and everybody knows you turn your back and they're gone."

Her parents told police they arrived home at 11:30 p.m. from an evening out to find their babysitter asleep and the front door wide open.

The girl was said to be in good condition.
