GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Clay County has postponed a vote on a controversial ordinance that would limit mobile businesses in the county, including a popular mobile pet clinic.
Instead, the county commission is considering revisions to the proposed ordinance.

Initially, the county was going to ask mobile clinics to get a county permit, pay an application fee, have $500,000 in liability insurance, and be 1,500 feet away from similar business.
The revisions would be mobile businesses would have to have permits from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation and the county, and the businesses would only be able to operate in certain zoning districts.
The ordinance is in response to complaints from traditional vets who say the mobile pet clinic has an unfair advantage, although many residents say they depend on the mobile clinic for low-cost care.
The planning commission will take up the issue again March 5.
Two more public hearings will be held at 5 p.m. March 12 and March 26.
No vote was to be taken at Tuesday's meeting, but public comment was still set for 4 p.m.
