FHP: Fleming Island man hit, critically injured while crossing US 17

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – A pedestrian was hit by a car and critically injured Monday night in Fleming Island, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to troopers, a 56-year-old Fleming Island man was crossing U.S. 17 near Hibernia Road just after 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Dodge Charger.

Troopers said the man was taken to Orange Park Medical Center with critical injuries. The 20-year-old driving the Dodge was unhurt.

The Highway Patrol's website previously listed the crash as fatal. 

Charges are pending, according to FHP.
