Convicted Tampa rapist gets 4 life terms

Judge called rapist an "animal"

TAMPA, Fla. - A Tampa man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after a Tampa judge sentenced him to four consecutive life sentences for the 2009 rape of a 75-year-old widow.
During the sentencing on Wednesday Hillsborough Circuit Judge Chet Tharpe called 53-year-old Joseph Frye an 'animal' and said he doesn't "desire that you spend one more day of your life as a free person."
The Tampa Bay Times  reports Frye was convicted of rape when he was 19 and ordered to serve 40 years in prison. He was release after 19 years and authorities say he raped the Tampa woman just 27 days later.
The judge apologized to the victim, saying her attacker should have never been released early. He told her "the state of Florida failed you."
