MIAMI, Fla. - Derek Medina is due in court Wednesday for a 9:30 a.m. hearing. He's the man accused of killing his wife and posting pictures of her corpse onto Facebook.

A grand jury indicted 31 year-old Derek Medina on a first-degree murder charge.

Medina posted the pictures of his wife, 26-year-old Jennifer Alonso, online back on August 8th. Authorities say he shot Alonso.

Along with the pictures he posted, "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news. my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with this abuse so I did what I did I hope you understand me."

Detectives say Medina told them the Facebook post was his way of showing family the situation that had occurred between the two of them. Prosecutors say he promised to kill his wife if she ever tried to leave him.

According to the Dailymail, Medina's father says Medina and Alonso had split up before and gotten a divorce. The two did remarry.

Medina's attorneys say he acted in self-defense. He hasn't entered a plea deal.
