2 injured in multi-car crash on I-295

All lanes reopened hours later

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was trying to remove a piece of debris from Interstate 295 in Mandarin on Tuesday morning, causing a crash that closed lanes for hours.

Just after 11 a.m. the FHP was dispatched to Interstate 295 at San Jose Boulevard where five vehicles were involved in a crash.

Troopers said a car stopped to avoid hitting the man, then was rear-ended, causing a chain reaction.

According to FHP, two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash initially closed one I-295 southbound lane and two I-295 northbound lanes at San Jose Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.  Within two hours all lanes reopened, but emergency vehicles remained on the emergency lane along the southbound median.
