JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A body was pulled from a retention pond on the Northside Sunday evening, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Neighbors reported a man went underwater while going after a drifting paddle boat but never resurfaced, according to JSO.

Just after 3 p.m. officers responded to Daybreak Woods, a Northside neighborhood, where they said a man had gone missing in a retention pond.
Police said when they got to the pond, some of the officers took off their gear and jumped in to try and find the man, who neighbors said lives at a home nearby.
One neighbor says he's never seen anyone swimming in the pond.
"I have seen people fish back there a couple of times and a man ride a canoe through it but not anybody in the water, inside of it," said D'Jimon Arrington.
JSO said once officers couldn't find the man, they began calling other agencies out to try and help find him.
"We notified Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. They came out to try and assist us and brought a small boat with them. They were in the water trying to locate him, they were not successful. Air unit hovered over head, to spot anything, they were unsuccessful and locating him either," said Sergeant Raymond Messersmith.
At about 6:45 p.m. the dive team made a somber discovery. A silver bag was pulled out of the pond with a body inside.
Police have not yet identified who the man was.
Arrington said the entire situation is unfortunate. He also said the pond seems dangerous, because not everyone has a fence and anyone could fall in.
"These houses right here, the pond is behind it, so it depends, some people have gates but most of them don't so its pretty free, you could easily go to the pond," said Arrington.
JSO is expected to release more information on the victim sometime Monday.
