Jacksonville Fire-Rescue firefighter injured in Eastside home blaze

Family of 5 displaced by fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville firefighter is in good condition and expected to recover after he was hurt battling a blaze at an Eastside home Sunday, officials said.

A battalion chief told Channel 4 it appeared the firefighter, from station 11, injured his back, but it is too early to tell the extent of his injuries.

Flames broke out at the home on E. 14th Street and Phoenix Avenue around 2 p.m. Responding units said there were heavy flames coming from the two-story home.

Officials said the firefighter tripped and fell on the floor because it was dark and smoky.

Five people lived in the bottom unit of the multipurpose duplex, and they have lost nearly everything.

The Red Cross is helping this family including a 3, 4 and 16-year-old.

Officials said no one was hurt, but the family is asking for help. If you would like to donate email Channel 4's Vic Micolucci at vic@wjxt.com.
