Jacksonville officer involved in Northside crash

Driver taken to hospital with injuries

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Sheriff Office patrol car was involved in a collision with a minivan Saturday afternoon  while responding to an emergency call on the Northside.

Traffic homicide detectives said Officer S.R. Barouque was headed west on Dunn Avenue around 2 p.m. with his blue emergency lights on when a woman driving a Ford minivan pulled out in front of the officer's cruiser.

The front of Officer Barouque's police car collided with the front passenger side the van.

Barouque was not hurt and the other driver was taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with minor injuries.  Police have not released her name.

Investigators said the emergency call was at a nearby Walmart, but did not say what the nature of the call was.

Police said the woman driver told them she did not see the police cruiser.

Chargers are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
