Motorcyclist, 33, killed in crash on I-295

FHP: Motorcyclist did not stop for traffic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A motorcyclist died when he failed to stop in time, hitting a car and ejecting the rider Monday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Joseph Sherman, 33, was traveling southbound on I-295 near I-95 just after 7 p.m. The GSX motorcycle was in the center right lane behind a Saturn Aura, according to the FHP report.

The driver of the Saturn, Jennifer Hernandez, 17, of Orange Park, slowed for traffic and stopped. The motorcyclist failed to stop in time and struck the right rear of the Saturn. Sherman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was snarled on the interstate for nearly 3 hours.
