Woman found unresponsive in Westside home

Police found 18-month-old boy in bathroom with unconscious mother

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police say they no longer suspect foul play in a 22-year-old woman's death after finding her unconscious Saturday night in a Westside home with her 18-month-old son.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers responded to the West Chirping Way home for a welfare check after friends reported not being able to get a hold of the victim for a couple of days.

When police arrived just before 8:00 p.m., they said they found the woman in the bathroom, along with her son. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she died a short time later, said police.

Officers said the victim's boyfriend also lived in the home, but he was incarcerated when the woman was found. They said the toddler was unharmed.

Police said neighbors claimed the victim had only lived in the home for three weeks. Authorities have not released the victim's identity.

Homicide detectives said they do not know the cause of the woman's death and are waiting for the autopsy report. There were no signs of any illegal drugs in the home.
