Lawsuit filed by Associated Investigative Services over $27K owed

SANFORD, Fla. – A private security company is suing George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watchman charged with shooting and killing Trayvon Martin, and his attorney, Mark O'Mara over unpaid security services, WKMG-TV reported.

Zimmerman's first security team, Associated Investigative Services, claims that Zimmerman and O'Mara owe them more than $27,000 plus interest, according to a lawsuit filed at the Orange County courthouse on Friday.

After Zimmerman shot and killed Martin, he received numerous death threats, prompting him to hire bodyguards. Zimmerman already paid the company $40,000 to provide bodyguard services for Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, along with hotel rooms and meals among other expenses, according to the lawsuit.

By phone, Zimmerman's attorney Mark O'Mara told WKMG the security company was "taking advantage of the situation" by providing additional staff and services that were not requested. He points out that the company was paid $40,000 from Zimmerman's legal defense fund. He said he is surprised by the lawsuit but believes it will be dismissed.

The security company says they worked for Zimmerman for about three months.
