The state added 11 travel-related cases of the Zika virus Thursday, with three cases popping up in Miami-Dade, two in Orange and one case each in Monroe, Osceola and Polk counties.

No new non-travel related cases were reported Thursday.

The total number of travel-related cases, which stem from people bringing the virus into the state from elsewhere, climbed to 534. There are 43 non-travel related cases, and 70 cases involving pregnant women.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott will travel Washington, D.C., on Sept. 6 to meet  with members of Congress and discuss the immediate need for funding to combat the Zika virus, the governor's office announced Thursday afternoon.

"Since Congress decided to go on a seven-week vacation, the state of Florida has been hard at work combating the Zika virus. I will travel to Washington, D.C., to meet with members of Congress on the day they return to work to make sure they immediately get something done on this urgent issue. During Congress’s vacation, we have identified 43 cases of locally acquired Zika in four Florida counties," Scott said. "The health and safety of Florida’s families cannot be overshadowed by partisan politics."

The Florida Department of Health still believes ongoing active transmission is only taking place within the small identified areas in Wynwood and Miami Beach in Miami-Dade County and will provide updates on the ongoing investigations in Pinellas and Palm Beach counties as they conclude.

As of Wednesday, the Department of Health said the state has had 43 locally transmitted cases, 523 travel-related cases and 70 cases involving pregnant women.
