LAKE CITY, Fla. – The Lake City Police Department found the man accused of stabbing his 36-year-old girlfriend to death. The statewide search for 31-year-old Carlis Lindsey III is over.

Police said Lindsey was going to surrender to authorities on Sunday. They had his home surrounded when Lindsey escaped and broke into his neighbor's house. While officials had the neighbor's home surrounded, police said Lindsey swallowed multiple pills from the medicine cabinet. He was transported to North Florida Regional Medical Center, where he's being treated.

Police said Lindsey will be charged in the death of Chaquasha Avinger, a mother of three. Avinger was stabbed multiple times about midnight Friday, on Northeast Jackson Avenue near Fronie Street. Police said her 3-week-old baby was in the car when Avinger was stabbed and her body was left in the street.

Police accused Lindsey of stabbing Avinger, dropping their baby at the grandmother's house, then taking off in Avinger's rental car.

Police have not released information on Lindsey's condition. Channel 4 is continuing to follow this story.
