Lake County firefighters rescue kitten from drain pipe

Cat nicknamed "Hydrant" recovering at local animal shelter

CLERMONT, Fla. – A kitten trapped in a drain pipe was saved Monday by nearly a dozen professionals, including four Lake County firefighters.

Firefighters said the 6-week-old cat may have been trapped in the pipe on Wilkinson Drive in Clermont for four to five days.

The kitten, nicknamed Hydrant, was dried off and given oxygen at the scene.

Lake County Animal Control officers brought Hydrant to the shelter where he will be treated until he is old enough to be adopted.

Firefighters said they are prepared for animal rescues, however, they generally hear of cats stuck in trees rather than down in a drain pipe.
