Off-duty Orange County deputy shot in back

Shooting takes place at Orlando storage facility

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orange County sheriff's deputy was shot in the back while working off-duty, and authorities continue to search for the gunman.

The shooting, described by Orlando police as a domestic dispute, happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday at a storage facility on LB McLeod Road near Kirkman Road.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.

WKMG-TV reported that a black sport utility vehicle at the storage facility was riddled with bullet holes, but details about the shooting have not been released.  A description of the gunman is also not known.

Orlando police investigators interviewed two young children, but police said they did not witness the shooting.

L.B. McLeod Road remains closed in the area.
