Florida voters voted to ban same-sex marriage in 2008

MIAMI, Fla. - A number of groups opposing same-sex marriage are planning to fight a lawsuit challenging the ban on same-sex marriage in Florida.

The Christian Family Coalition and the Florida Democratic League are two groups working to fight the law.

A news conference is scheduled for Friday on the issue by the groups.

In 2008 Florida voters voted to ban gay marriage in the state of Florida.   The groups want the ban to be respected.

Six gay couples challenged the law in January saying the law is unconstitutional.  The same-sex couples say the law violates the guarantee of equal treatment and due process.

The office of Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi hasn't responded to the lawsuit.
