Police: Man accused of pepper spraying boys

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A Daytona Beach man is accused of using pepper spray on two boys who were playing near his mailbox.

Fifty-eight-year-old Wilbert Vreen is charged with two counts of child abuse and was being held in the Volusia County Jail on Friday. His bail is set at $10,000.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the boys - ages 8 and 10 - were playing by the mailboxes on Wednesday afternoon when they were confronted by Vreen.

The boys told investigators Vreen sprayed their faces with pepper spray, which a witness also confirmed. Police say the boys "displayed signs consistent with pepper spray," including watery eyes.

Vreen told police he owns pepper spray but did not use it on the boys. He did admit the boys were "bothering him."
