FHP: 2 dead in Satsuma crash on U.S. 17

SATSUMA, Fla. – Two people died in a crash Thursday afternoon on U.S. 17 in Putnam County, the Florida Highway Patrol said. 

Troopers responded about 3:30 p.m. to two-vehicle crash on U.S. 17 and Buffalo Bluff Road in Satsuma. A Chrysler was traveling southbound on U.S. 17 and veered into the northbound lanes and into the path of a Ford Expedition, causing the Chrysler to hit the Ford, according to troopers.

The driver of the Chrysler, Lloyd McSheehy, 78, and the passenger, Kathleen McSheehy, 72, were killed at the scene. 

The driver and one passenger of the Ford were taken to Orange Park Medical Center with minor injuries and the 13-year-old passenger was taken to Wolfson Children's Hospital with series injuries, said FHP.

All lanes of U.S. 17 were blocked for several hours, but have reopened.
