Report: Group opposes Jacksonville mayor for CFO

Lenny Curry says he doesn't want job

One of Florida's most vocal social conservative groups is entering the fight over the state's next chief financial officer, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The Florida Family Policy Council told its members Wednesday to call Gov. Rick Scott and demand he stop considering Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry for the CFO's job, the Tampa Bay Times reported Wednesday

The group opposes rights for the LGBT community, and is upset that Curry didn't veto the expansion of Jacksonville's Human Rights Ordinance.

Current CFO, Jeff Atwater, said he's resigning after this session.

On Feb. 14, Curry told News4Jax that he does not want the job anyway.

"I don't deal in hypotheticals. I'm not pursuing anything. I haven't talked to anyone," Curry wrote in an email to Jim Piggott.
